Eligibility
When you join BankVic you become a member and equal shareholder in a 100% member-owned bank. Your membership shares cost $10 upon joining.
As the bank for the police, emergency services, and health workers, our profits are reinvested to provide better value banking and to support our community.
You may apply for BankVic membership if you are an Australian citizen or resident and you are either:- a member or an employee of a police force
- a person involved in emergency services, health work, or the government sector, as defined below
- a family member of one of the above BankVic members
In particular, eligible members are:
- Police - any employee of an Australian State, Territory or Federal Police Force and any member or employee of The Police Association of Victoria (TPAV), Northern Territory Police Association (NTPA) or Australian Federal Police Association (AFPA).
- Emergency Services - any employee of an Australian State, Territory or Federal Emergency Services provider.
- Health – any registered health practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), as well as any employee or contractor of an Australian public or private hospital.
- Government - any employee of the Australian Government Sector, defined as an employee of a federal government primary body within the Australian Government Organisations Register (AGOR) and the corresponding equivalent bodies for State and Territory governments.
To be eligible for a BankVic home loan, you must be a BankVic member. You can apply for membership as part of your home loan application.
Membership
Here are some of the most common questions we receive about BankVic membership.
To become a member, you’ll need to purchase a $10 share, as BankVic is a member-owned bank. This can be deducted from your opening deposit. Being a BankVic member gives you access to our range of banking products and services. If your membership is ever closed, your $10 share will be refunded.
In most cases, within two business days, as long as all required information is provided at the time of application.
Yes. Once you’re a member, eligible family members (including children) can also join and access BankVic products and services.
Once you’re a member, you can open accounts, apply for loans and access our full range of banking services.
Yes. As long as you meet the eligibility criteria, you can become a BankVic member wherever you live in Australia.
