A new Chair has been appointed by the BankVic Board, following the retirement of outgoing Chair, Lucinda Nolan, who steps down after serving the maximum nine-year tenure.
CEO Anthony De Fazio acknowledged Lucinda’s significant contribution.
Lucinda has led BankVic with purpose and passion, strongly advocating for BankVic to continue innovating and finding ways to better support our members.
Lucinda served with Victoria Police for 32 years, achieving the rank of Deputy Commissioner. Lucinda’s husband Paul served with Victoria Police for 39 years, her brother for 32 years, and her daughter joined the police force in 2018.
This is what made Lucinda’s contribution to BankVic so special, and we thank her for her leadership, dedication and service”.
Current Director Michael Liu has been appointed as Chair. He brings more than 25 years of financial services experience across governance, risk, and executive leadership.
Michael commenced his career as a lawyer at Allens Arthur Robinson, and has since held senior roles at UBS Investment Bank, Macquarie Bank, and leadership roles in fintech and venture capital.
Michael is currently a non-executive director on the Board of WCM Global Growth (ASX: WQG), a non-executive director of Defence Health, and is also a non-executive director of the Law Institute of Victoria.
To fill the vacancy created by Lucinda Nolan’s retirement, the Board called for nominations in April 2025. One nomination was received, and in accordance with the Constitution and BankVic’s Fit and Proper process, Wayne Gatt was deemed elected to the BankVic Board.
Wayne is the Secretary of The Police Association of Victoria (TPAV) and brings extensive experience in industrial relations, operational risk management, human resources and executive leadership. Wayne has been a member of Victoria Police for more than 30 years, and has been Chief Executive Officer of The Police Federation of Australia (Victoria Branch) and Secretary of TPAV since 2017.
Wayne leads the representation of 18,000 police and protective services officers, providing strategic leadership, governance, and financial oversight.
“We welcome Michael and Wayne to their new roles and look forward to their leadership and strategic input to help us continue being the bank for police, emergency and health workers around Australia”, Anthony said.
